Job Description

We have an awesome opportunity to join City Furniture and the Office of Strategy Management (OSM) team as the Managing Director of Project Management. In this role the right person is going to be responsible for a systematic approach to managing top-level, high-priority, and cross departmental strategic initiatives from scoping to implementation. The Managing Director of Project (PMO) works directly with our Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) to identify where PMO resources are required. In addition, the position will require the right candidate to actively manage high-priority and high-impact projects, oversees other project managers and project teams to achieve projects on-time, on-budget, with high stakeholder’ satisfaction. This position will own the standards for managing and executing the full life cycle of projects.

Our Managing Director of (PMO) develops continuous improvement through people, processes, and technologies necessary to ensure project teams are: a) working on the right priority initiatives, b) applying consistent best practices to help define and move projects forward with appropriate change management, and c) providing transparent, consistent, and easy-to-understand progress updates. The PMO leads and manages top global and key PMO projects as assigned by the CSO. The position requires assembling, scoping documents, spend significant time aligning key stakeholders, capturing requirements, and converting those requirements to deliverables.

Other Skill Requirements:

Mastery Level Microsoft Office Skills - Ability to optimize the use and efficiency of key systems.

  • Microsoft Project, SmartSheet, or other project management software - work stream, task, dependencies, predecessors, Gantt, etc.
  • Excel - tracking, sorting, filtering, conditional formatting, pivot tables, etc.
  • PowerPoint - graphics, master slide formatting, notes development, and advanced storyboarding
  • Word - reference and table creation, master formatting, and document structuring

Job Requirements

Education - Bachelor’s degree or Advanced degree in Project Management and/or Business Administration or related field required. Experience above the minimum number of years may substitute for education.


Certification or Licensure Requirements -


  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification Strongly Preferred
  • Lean and Six Sigma Certifications Preferred But Not Required


Work Experience -

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in large project management
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in middle to upper-management position
  • Experience managing project teams and/or outside vendors
  • Experience managing in a Lean and/or Agile organization
  • Track record of working with and being able to influence senior executives
